Who are we?

Radcliffe Men's Events began in it's current form in the summer of 2015 (there's a little bit of background below).  This blog is simply a means of communication to all who are interested in joining us.  Many of us are members of the churches in Radcliffe and so the group has Christian roots, but no church connection is needed to take part.

As well as this Home page, there are two others (links above) - Events where you'll find details of the current program; and Friendship, musings on what we hope to be one outcome of our gatherings.

Comments and feedback are always welcome - feel free to add one below.

Radcliffe Men's Meetings

Survey of Views

Thanks for all of the responses to the survey - seems like a long time ago now - apologies for the long delay in publishing them.  Below is a link to a copy of the results - my own interpretation of them is:
  1. There is strong support for some kind of men's meeting to continue.
  2. A good breakfast aside, we enjoy meeting with friends and new people, as well as listening to a speaker.
  3. As you might expect, there is a cross-section of views relating to the type of event (eg: when, where etc) but broadening the scope of the meetings would seem to be a welcome move.
Here's an overview of the responses to the survey.

Having spoken to a number of men, we may now be close to a relaunch of men's meetings.  However, before then we'd like to talk to you some more of you and gather some more feedback before making any firm plans for the future. To get the ball rolling, could I prompt a discussion based upon the following musings.

  1. At the core of church life (indeed all 'life') is friendship, and for men, what some might call brotherliness.
  2. We have an immense amount to learn from each other - from how to lay a patio to how to trust God in difficult times.
  3. As 'carriers of good news' we have a responsibility to share it far and wide.
So, ................. - you can finish this sentence for yourself, but to add my own two-penn'oth:
  • Why not have a quarterly cycle of monthly men's meetings made up of a breakfast at a local cafe, a pie and pint supper at a local pub and a general interest event of varying types (from skittles to local walk, from helping a local project to bike ride - whatever!)
  • Everyone and anyone is always very welcome
  • The leadership/coordination is more 'distributed' than 'centralised' - a sort of grass-roots movement!
So now over to you - please add your own thoughts and feelings in a post below

OK - Here's the outcome of our deliberations:

Thanks for your comments following my previous e-mail.  With very few objections to giving our suggestions at least a trial run, I'm putting in three dates for our first three events as below.  I'd like to continue to use the BlogSpot for updates and general communication, so please create a shortcut/bookmark/favourite to the site if you can:
http://radcliffemen.blogspot.co.uk/

1. Pie and a Pint - The Royal Oak - Thursday 28 May - 7-30pm
2. Radcliffe to Shelford Walk (plus a pint) - Thursday 25 June - 7-00pm - meet at Wharf Lane Park (do the whole walk, just half of it or just the pint - meet in the Earl of Chesterfield around 8-00pm)
3. Breakfast - Saturday 25 July 8-00am - Venue to be confirmed

Paul Dean ( paul.andrew.dean@gmail.com )will be acting as our communications man and receiving emails etc to confirm your involvement in any particular event.  Venues will need numbers, so please email/speak to Paul if you intend to be at the Royal Oak meal BY MONDAY 25 MAY.  I'm hoping that the basic cost will be around £10.

With these in place, we can see how things progress and talk about further events.  Other people involved in the planning so far are Charles and Rev Chris - if you volunteered some of your time in the survey, watch out - I haven't forgotten!!

Remember, all men in any way connected with Radcliffe or friends/family of yourselves are very welcome.
